The Training Center can develop and deliver a customized web-based training program that provides initial and refresher training for radio users, dispatchers, supervisors, and system administrators on the operation of subscriber and dispatch console equipment used in the system. The goal of this training program would be to build end-user confidence by improving their knowledge of the system and user equipment, which will enhance operations and help reduce the number of trouble reports.
The recommended training program consists of a system overview module followed by operational training modules on portable/mobile radios and the C3 Maestro or C3 MaestroIP Dispatch Console, and a module on basic radio care and maintenance. A customer can design a program consisting of one or more of these training modules depending on the specific need and budget.
Web-based training modules are self-paced and interactive, and are developed utilizing animation and other multimedia tools to help keep students engaged, which increases retention. Additionally, the training can be accessed when needed and is cost-effective, especially when student or instructor travel and living expenses associated with attending standard classroom instruction are considered.
The System Overview module is specifically designed for the non-technical end user who requires a basic understanding of overall system operation. This module includes the following topics, as appropriate:
• The difference between trunked and conventional radio systems.
• The concept of talkgroups.
• The difference between analog and digital voice.
• A high-level overview of the customer’s radio system.
• Basic multisite and/or simulcast system operation.
• Wide-area roaming between sites (multisite only).
• Interoperability with other radio systems.
• Factors that impact coverage and coverage expectations.
