This year we are expanding our training offerings to include customized courses created and delivered exclusively for Tyco Electronics by Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) in Lynchburg, Virginia. For the past several years, CVCC has provided Tyco Electronics with training on networking equipment to facilitate implementation of our VIDA solution. These same courses are now available to our customers’ technical personnel.
Additionally, students can receive Continuing Education Units and even college credits through CVCC for attending any of our standard course offerings at the Technical Training Center.
Customer Satisfaction
It is very important to the Training Team that our services meet and exceed customer expectations. To measure our performance, students complete a Class Evaluation Form at the conclusion of every training course conducted at the Training Center and on-site. We are very proud of the fact that for the past five years our Customer Satisfaction Rating has been 4.7 out of a possible 5.0. Student feedback is anonymous; however, we have included some noteworthy customer comments on this site.
Purpose
This site is designed to provide you with information about our training services and to help you select the appropriate course of instruction for operating, managing and maintaining your radio system. Training courses are divided into three categories: operation, administration and maintenance. A brief description of each course is provided along with flowcharts that illustrate the recommended sequence of courses for administrative and maintenance training. You can download the Training Registration Form and access the Training Center Schedule
Training Methodology
In order to provide high-quality, performance-based training, our training courses are developed and maintained using a systematic approach. This methodology identifies what training should be provided for each job position and focuses on the performance of tasks. Training courses are then designed and developed with explicit learning objectives and appropriate content. Training effectiveness is evaluated and the results are used to maintain and improve our training programs.
This systematic approach to training methodology also ensures that training is delivered in the most effective learning environment, such as a classroom or laboratory, and a proper mixture of discussion, lecture, and hands-on training are used to provide optimal learning. In addition, student materials, that are easy to follow, are created to support the training and appropriate technical documentation is provided.

Tyco Electronics Network Laboratory at CVCC
Tyco Electronics and Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) have established a partnership to provide basic and advanced network training to OpenSky, P25IP, and EDACSIP customers, our indirect channel partners, and Tyco Electronics employees. This training is conducted at a CVCC facility specifically designed to provide access to multiple routers and switches for optimum hands-on learning. The training is conducted by Jane Eckes, a Professor of Computer Networking.
In the advanced course, students design, build and troubleshoot a complete network using the lab equipment. |

Instructor Qualification
Customer training is delivered by our technical training staff that is comprised of training professionals with extensive experience in both adult learning and telecommunications. Instructor certification ensures that each trainer possesses the instructional skills and technical competencies to deliver high-quality training to our customers. Instructors are also evaluated regularly and they participate in a continuing instructor development program to maintain and improve their technical and instructional knowledge and skills.
On-Site Training
In addition to the regularly scheduled courses conducted at the Training Center, most of the courses offered in this site can be conducted on site. Please refer to the Course Listing section of the site to see which courses are offered on site.
Courses can also be customized to meet specific customer training requirements. For example, we can conduct a 4½-day radio maintenance course that covers both the P7100 portable and Orion mobile radios, which is not a standard course offering.
For on-site training, the customer must provide the facility, and any tools and equipment needed to support the hands-on portion of the training.
On-site training is coordinated through the Training Manager who will quote prices and availability.
