M/A-COM P25IP Communications System Helps Franklin County, Massachusetts’ Public Safety Officials Achieve Interoperability

Collaboration Between Tyco Electronics M/A-COM and Comtronics Corporation Delivers Inter-Agency Interoperability for Officials Located in 26 Towns

LOWELL, Mass., May 15, 2007 - Tyco Electronics announced today that its M/A-COM business, a worldwide leader of critical radio communications systems, has successfully deployed its P25IP (Project 25 to the power of Internet Protocol) conventional MASTR III radio communications system throughout Franklin County, Massachusetts, enabling local police, fire and emergency medical service (EMS) officials to talk with each other and ensuring inter-agency interoperability. The two-channel, 11-site system, engineered, installed and maintained by Quincy, Massachusetts-based Comtronics Corporation, provides interoperable communications for Franklin County’s public safety officials who are located throughout the County’s 26 towns.

“We are extremely proud to be able to provide our public safety authorities with the critical communications technology they need to best perform their duties for Franklin County,” said Angus “Terry” Dun, Shelburne Fire Chief, Co-Chair for the Western Massachusetts Regional Interoperability Committee and President of Tri-State Fire Mutual Aid. “By partnering with Tyco Electronics M/A-COM and Comtronics to develop and deploy a standards-based radio communications platform, we have the confidence of knowing that our radio system will provide fast, reliable and future-proof communications for all users.”

In order to provide Franklin County’s public safety officials with an advanced radio communications system, as well as the service and support to meet their day-to-day needs, Tyco Electronics partnered with Comtronics Corporation, to deliver onsite installation, deployment and regularly scheduled maintenance of its M/A-COM P25IP MASTR III radio system.

“For regions like Franklin County, it is necessary to have the most dependable radio system online in order to give users access to other agencies at a mere push of a button,” said Catherine Leonard, President, Comtronics, Corporation. “Our experienced team of radio consultants and technicians, paired with the M/A-COM technology, allows us to deliver the most cost-effective and trustworthy public safety communication systems and the technical expertise to support the systems on a daily basis.”

The M/A-COM P25IP conventional MASTR III communications system features end-to-end IP, meaning users can significantly increase capacity, connection speeds and the number of system users; capabilities that are not customary with traditional radio systems. Additionally, system administrators can benefit from the scalability, affordability and survivability of the M/A-COM P25IP technology.

“It is extremely important for all public safety agencies, whether they are on a national or local level, to have critical communications that they can rely on for everyday needs like information sharing, or more severe situations like responding to emergencies,” said Kevin MacKenna, Regional Sales Manager, Tyco Electronics. “We are pleased to provide Franklin County users with a system that will support all of these needs now and into the future.”
