M/A-COM Business Will Support General Dynamics
in Connecting Federal Law Enforcement, Homeland Security
and State and Local First Responders
LOWELL, Mass. – June 11, 2007 – Tyco Electronics’
M/A-COM business, a worldwide leader of critical radio communications
systems, announced today that it is a member of a team led
by General Dynamics that was recently awarded the federal
Integrated Wireless Network (IWN) project. The Department
of Justice selected the General Dynamics C4 Systems team
as the contractor of choice to implement IWN, which, once
completed, will provide a range of secure and reliable wireless
communications services to federal law enforcement and homeland
security field agents. Tyco Electronics’ M/A-COM business
will support General Dynamics by providing expertise in land
mobile radio technology and on related interoperable communications
issues.
“Tyco Electronics’ M/A-COM business is extremely honored
to be working with General Dynamics and all the IWN teammates
to deliver a realistic, cost-effective and technologically
advanced critical communications system for the Federal government,”
said John Vaughan, senior vice president and CTO, Tyco Electronics’
M/A-COM business. “We are committed to providing the federal
government a reliable and interoperable radio communications
system that will further its agencies’ law enforcement and
homeland security missions. IWN is an extremely important,
extensive, but highly achievable project to which we are
pleased to contribute.”
On the General Dynamics team, the M/A-COM business is joined
by IBM, Nortel Government Solutions and Verizon Wireless.
IWN is a collaborative effort by the Departments of Justice,
Homeland Security and the Treasury to provide a consolidated
nationwide federal wireless communications service that replaces
stand alone radio systems, and supports law enforcement and
homeland security requirements with integrated communications
services (voice, data, and multimedia) in a wireless environment.
IWN will implement solutions to provide federal agency interoperability
with appropriate links to state, local, and tribal public
safety, and homeland security entities.
