Network Additions and Improvements Support Project
25 (P25) Digital Technology to Strengthen Radio Communications
at Krakow’s John Paul II International Airport and Warsaw’s
Frederic Chopin International Airport
LOWELL, Mass. – June 12, 2007 – Tyco Electronics,
a worldwide leader of critical radio communications systems,
today announced that its M/A-COM business has completed installation
of new radio equipment to improve the communications capability
for two of Poland’s largest airports, John Paul II International
Airport in Krakow and The Frederic Chopin International Airport,
located in Warsaw. Both installations include M/A-COM Project
25IP (P25) digital communications network technology, along
with internetworking to existing M/A-COM EDACS (Enhanced
Digital Access Communications System) equipment, which are
both supported by the M/A-COM VIDA (Voice Interoperable Data
Access) network technology. These additions will improve
dependability of interoperable communications at each airport,
helping airport personnel and security to ensure safe passage
for the millions of travelers who pass through the airports
every year.
“Since its induction into the European Union, Poland has
experienced a significant rise in tourism, both holiday and
business-related, highlighting the need for more advanced
communications capabilities for airport security and personnel,”
said Tomasz Rzeszutek, general manager, Tyco Electronics’
M/A-COM business, Poland. “The extended coverage and improved
reliability of the systems in Krakow and Warsaw will contribute
to the safety of the ever-increasing number of passengers
traveling through these airports now and in the future.”
Communications officials at John Paul II International Airport
replaced its analog system with a six channel, single-site
M/A-COM P25IP digital communications network with a VIDA
switch, which has the capability to support a TETRA (TErrestrial
TRunked RAdio) network. The trunked system utilizes one C3
Maestro console and one VIP console, all designed to accommodate
more than 150 members of airport security and staff. Planned
future expansion will include three interoperability gateways,
IP telephone interconnect and IP logging recorder capabilities.
At The Frederic Chopin International Airport, Tyco Electronics’
M/A-COM business partnered with Tyco Fire & Integrated
Solutions (UK) Ltd. to install a radio re-broadcast communications
system for the airport’s new Terminal 2 building. The system
extends the existing EDACS trunked radio network from Terminal
1, and provides seamless communications capabilities between
the two terminals. The EDACS system also has the ability
to expand to meet the future communications needs of airport
personnel.
“Analog legacy systems worldwide are quickly approaching
the end of their product lifecycles, and the need for flexible,
integrated network solutions is becoming more important every
day,” said John Vaughan, senior vice president and CTO, Tyco
Electronics’ M/A-COM business. “The VIDA network solution
meets and exceeds this need by providing a secure, flexible
platform that can be configured to the requirements of any
critical communications system with multiple components and
technologies.”
The M/A-COM VIDA network platform is a cost-effective, IP-based
interoperable radio communications technology that can support
TETRA, P25 and other IP-based systems. VIDA uses standard
network protocols and an open architecture, and operates
in a client/server environment, to address the voice and
data communications needs of public safety radio users around
the world. EDACS is a high-performance, group-oriented critical
radio communications system that provides flexible and efficient
wide-area network operations, and is capable of carrying
voice and data on a single system.
