Homeland SecurityIn
July 2002 the President approved the National Strategy
for Homeland Security, a road map for the national effort
to prevent and respond to acts of terrorism in the United
States. The National Strategy recognizes the vital role
of state and local public safety agencies in providing
for the security of our homeland. A major component of
Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) domestic preparedness
initiatives is the ability of First Responders to communicate
during a local or national crisis. Enhancing the interoperable
communications capabilities of state and local public
safety personnel has been the subject of recent DHS funding
through grant programs directly to state and local agencies.
